Barbara Ann Murphy

Barbara Ann Murphy, age 91, died on Thursday, February 2, 2023 in Billings, MT. She was born November 14, 1931 to Myrtie and Tom Murphy and was the youngest of three children.

She was raised in Harlowton and attended schools there. After graduation, she attended Multnomah University in Portland, OR.

Barbara began working for the telephone company as a telephone operator in Harlowton, a short time in West Yellowstone and then moved to Billings when Harlowton’s system was automated, retiring in 1989. After returning to Harlowton she worked for the Coast to Coast. She had also worked at several jobs including the AG supermarket and the Court House.

Our aunt was a very strong and talented woman. She was quite artistic, painted and was very skilled at crocheting. She had a knack for figuring things out and was able to come up with “MacGyver type” solutions to whatever challenges that she had.

Barbara was a dedicated Bible reader and was very active in any church that she attended often playing the piano, organ, teaching Sunday school and singing.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, sister Dorothy Hess and brother Gene Murphy. She is survived by 11 nieces and nephews as well as numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Thanks go out to the wonderful, caring staff of Butterfly Homes where she has lived for the last year and to Riverstone Hospice who kept her comfortable in her last few weeks.

A memorial will be held Friday, February 17th at 2:00 pm at the Wesleyan Church, 104 A Ave NE, Harlowton, MT.
