Mickael Randal Teig passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, surrounded by his family, at Vista Plains Hospital in Harlowton, Montana. He died just 11 days before his 110th birthday.
Mike was a longtime Wheatland County rancher who swathed hay until age 94.
During his last few years while in the hospital, he received letters of recognition and congratulations from the Governor for being the oldest person in the State of Montana.
Mickael was born to Ellen (Saunes) Teig and Mandius Teig on May 17th, 1916, on the family ranch. He went to the Lebo School for 7 years, graduating 8th grade at the age of 14. He worked in the Coats Brothers Store in Martinsdale and one summer on a ranch in Dillon. He also worked for a few years on different ranches around Martinsdale, upon returning home to work with his father and brothers.
His father had the Lebo Post Office in their home for 19 years.
He met Bettie Ginther at a dance in Hedgesville. They later married and were together for 55 years until Bettie passed away in 2007. They ranched for a year on the Teig Ranch in Martinsdale, then moved to the Ginther Ranch in Nihill, where they remained for the rest of their lives.
Those who preceded Mike in death were his wife, Bettie; parents, Ellen & Mandius; brothers, Selmar, Johan, Emmet, Martin, and Henry (at age 7); sisters Alma Burger, Mable Dreidline, & Emma Pike, and another sister at a very young age.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews and their families
